Excursion to Hemingway's Places
The excursion includes:
- visiting 2 bars: Floridita, where Hemingway almost daily while in Havana enjoyed his favorite cocktail Daiquiri and where the first chapters of the novella “The Old Man and the Sea” were written, for which the writer received the Nobel Prize, and Bodeguita del Medio, where he drank the Mojito cocktail.
- the hotel Ambos Mundos, where Papa Hem always stayed from 1932 to 1939 and where several chapters of the novels “To Have and Have Not”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” were written. Now there is a room-museum and a magnificent viewing terrace.
- visiting the estate Finca Vigía, where Hemingway lived for 21 years from 1939 to 1960. There you can see the house, belongings, utensils, which look the same as during the writer's lifetime. The library counts 9039 volumes, hunting trophies on the floor and walls: skins and animal heads. A 3‑story tower – “Cat’s House”, bungalow, dog cemetery and the yacht Pilar, as well as a 10‑ha fruit garden.
- the village of Cojímar, where Hemingway’s bust is located. The place where the yacht Pilar stood, the house of Gregorio Fuentes – the yacht’s captain and Hemingway’s friend, and the restaurant La Terraza, where Hemingway, Gregorio and the writer’s friends often dined.
- Marina Hemingway, a tourist spot on the ocean shore, from where since 1950 boats departed for the fishing contest (blue marlin, aguja, etc.). This international contest is held annually to this day.
