Panama with vacation the caribbean archipelago of Guna Yala (San Blas)
Day 1 / PANAMA CITY. City Tour with lunch.
Departure from the hotel at 07:45 am to 08:00 am. Program:
- Visit to the Miraflores Visitor Center of the Panama Canal. The Visitor Center is a space where you can enjoy a unique experience observing the operation and movement of ships through the locks, as well as a visit to the IMAX theater, where a 45-minute film about the construction of the canal is shown. The film is screened in 3D format in English with Spanish subtitles.
- Visit to the archaeological site of Panama La Vieja, declared a Historic Monumental Complex in 1976 and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The Archaeological Site of Panamá Viejo corresponds to the location where Panama City was founded on August 15, 1519 by Pedrarias Dávila. It includes the ruins of the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas, as well as remains of the earliest inhabitants of the isthmus. Its role as one of the most important expedition centers in the history of the Spanish conquest and colonization, as well as its strategic function in the commercial trade routes of the time, determined the destiny of the isthmus as a territory serving international transit.
- Tour of the Casco Antiguo, also known as Casco Viejo, or the “old quarter,” which features lively squares and picturesque brick-paved streets surrounded by colorful buildings. The Casco Antiguo is also home to some of the city’s best museums, such as the Canal Museum and the Mola Museum, which exhibits traditional textile art created by the Guna indigenous group. We will walk through Plaza de Francia, Plaza Herrera, Plaza de la Catedral, and Plaza Bolívar, where there is a monument to the Liberator Simón Bolívar, national hero of many Central and South American countries.
- Finally, we will visit the Amador Causeway, the most surprising area of Panama City, which previously consisted of three separate islands in the ocean: Naos, Perico, and Flamenco, with lunch at a local restaurant.
Return to the hotel.
