The mainland is connected to Cayo Santa Maria by a causeway 48.6 km long. Near the island of Cayo Santa Maria are the small islets Las Brujas and Ensenchos. All three islands have beautiful beaches with soft white sand and very clear water. Their picturesque surroundings are wonderful places for fishing, diving, water sports, and boat trips along the channels separating the islets.

The underwater world of Cayo Santa Maria attracts many diving enthusiasts, who can see here numerous species of coral fish.

A complex of tourist hotels has been built on the island, where guests are provided with European‑level service.
